DIANA DEATH: INQUEST A SHAM
Outrage that only staff from the Royal Household will sit on jury
Daily Express
13 Mar 2006

By Mark Reynolds

THE inquest into the death of Princess Diana was mired in fresh controversy last night.

The jurors who will decide whether her death was an accident will come from the Royal Household, it emerged.

Although Diana was no longer a member of the Royal Family when she was killed in 1997, the inquest verdict will not be delivered by ordinary members of the public.

Instead, a panel of courtiers will decide whether Diana died in a drink-drive accident, as has been claimed by French investigators, or was murdered along with her lover Dodi Fayed, as many now believe. A separate inquest, with a jury of members of the public, will be held into Dodi’s death.

It means that two widely differing verdicts could be returned on the same crash.

Last night the decision was attacked as “plainly wrong” by VERDICTS: Separate inquests will be held on Diana and lover Dodi Fayed Dodi’s father Mohamed Al Fayed. He insists there cannot be a fair hearing into Diana’s death if the people asked to deliver a judgment come from the same Establishment he accuses of covering up details about the crash.

But Royal Coroner Michael Burgess insists he has no choice and that for Diana’s inquest a jury must be selected from officers of the Queen’s Household.

This is even though Diana lost the right to the title Her Royal Highness as part of the £17million divorce settlement agreed between herself and Prince Charles in 1996.

‘NO CHOICE’: Coroner Burgess

Mr Burgess said: “The Coroners Act 1988 requires that jurors of an inquest held by the Coroner of the Queen’s Household consist of officers of that household.

“This is contained in primary legislation and I have no power to vary this provision.”

But Mr Fayed – who has always claimed that Diana and Dodi’s deaths were not an accident – yesterday insisted that he would challenge Mr Burgess’s position.

He has long argued that his son and the Princess were killed on the orders of the Establishment, with a cover-up subsequently carried out by MI6 with the blessing of the Royal Family.

On learning that members of the Royal Household will sit on the jury at Diana’s inquest, he vowed to fight the decision and continue with his quest to get to the truth.

“The only possible way to get a fair hearing for an inquest is for the ordinary people of the country to be on the jury,” Mr Fayed told the Daily Express.

“ As polls show, 94 per cent of ordinary people believe that Diana and my son were murdered.

“That is why I am pressing for this to happen. It would be wrong to have a jury drawn from the Royal Household – for obvious reasons.

“Diana was not a member of the household when she was killed because she had been stripped of her title beforehand.”

He strongly disagrees that Mr Burgess has no alternative, pointing out that the Royal Coroner was charged with Diana’s inquest purely by chance.

“The only reason this inquest is being heard by the Royal Coroner is that the then Royal Coroner, Dr John Burton, took it upon himself to take jurisdiction after the Princess’ body was flown back to Britain,” Mr Fayed said.

“Dr Burton said the reason for doing this was that Diana was a resident at Kensington Palace before her death.”

This ignores the fact that Diana was, strictly, no longer a royal, he said. Mr Fayed has warned Mr Burgess that he will take him to the High Court to ensure a jury is made up of members of the public.

Mr Fayed’s barrister, Michael Mansfield QC, believes there are potentially farcical consequences of any jury at Diana’s inquest being made up solely of members of the royal household.

He said: “By virtue of section 29 (4) (of the Coroners Act) jurors in the Diana inquest will have to consist of officers of the Queen’s Household.

Mockery

“It appears that they would be nominated by whichever officer of the household was directed by the coroner to summon them. This would make a mockery of the whole process.”

An inquest jury normally comprises between seven and 11 members.

A royal inquest has not been held since 1972, when Prince William of Gloucester, eldest son of the Queen’s Uncle, was killed in a plane crash.

PALACE RESIDENT: Diana’s home is the reason a ‘royal’ inquest was ordered

Meanwhile, British detectives are continuing with their lengthy £2.5million inquiry into the death of Diana. Codenamed Operation Paget, and being led by former Scotland Yard Commissioner Lord Stevens, the investigation was ordered by Mr Burgess last January when he reopened the inquest into the deaths of the Princess and Dodi Fayed.

The coroner said Scotland Yard should investigate every aspect of the death – including the conspiracy theories put forward by Mr Fayed and others that the Princess and Dodi were murdered by British secret services.

Officers from Lord Stevens’ team of 12 senior detectives have interviewed two MI6 agents who were in Paris on the night of the fatal crash, along with their bosses. But officers on the inquiry have complained that co-operation from Paris has never been as good as they might have expected.

The Operation Paget report into Diana’s death is expected to be completed this year – some nine years after the crash – with the inquest taking place shortly afterwards. There are fears, however, that delaying tactics by the French investigation team could see the inquest delayed – possibly until 2009.

Disguising! That will give a Royal Family a bad name. No doubt about it. They are so backward. I mean all their advisors and THEM. These divvies may looked down on us but it doesn't help their images in a long run. People are/will getting sick of them because they don't know how to be truthful to us (Or maybe they don't want to know the truth). The trouble with the public is we all are not easily fools and thank god for that! It's hardly a surprising because they most likely will not tell us the truth anyway, I mean if it was just a mere accident, then why all the fuss until now? I mean 9 YEARS later? It doesn't adding up but I don't think we will get the truth out at this time. There is a lot of covering up and there will always be sham(s) over Diana's death. The question is what got to do with the Royal Family? Diana was no longer part of them as they were glad to get rid of her after 'THE' divorce. I feel sorry for Diana to be honest. It is very sad but at the same time, it made me furious as they were trying to dragging Diana's name down the mud. It's very distasteful and cruel. Twisted Evil
