WHEN Kate Middleton arrived at the wedding of Laura Parker Bowles and Harry Lopes recently, she seemed more at ease than ever in the company of the Royal Family. Dressed in a designer coat and with her head held high, observers noted Prince William’s long-term girlfriend looked like a Royal. But while Kate has seemingly taken to Royalty like a duck to water, I can reveal the young history of art graduate has actually been working hard to fit in.
The 24-year-old has consulted senior officials at the Palace for advice on how to behave in public and, in a somewhat unusual step, has been watching footage of the late Princess Diana as part of a course of unofficial media training.
According to my source, Kate, who is so close to the Royal Family she has had a series of private meetings with the Queen, has been analysing tapes of the Princess and other Royals to learn how to cope with being constantly photographed.
PART OF ‘ THE FIRM’: Kate Middleton
‘ Diana learned how to deal with the cameras, but she made mistakes at first,’ reports an aide. ‘She was pictured in a see-through skirt when the Press first realised she was Charles’s girlfriend. Orders have come from the very top that Kate is to be protected now she is a permanent part of William’s life.
‘She is seen as part of “The Firm’’ and everyone is very happy with Kate, right up to the highest level. As a potential Queen, Kate needs to know how to cope with the spotlight.’
The news that Kate is receiving unofficial briefings by senior Royal aides further fuels speculation she will one day marry Prince William, who is currently training at Sandhurst.
Unlike Diana, who complained about the lack of an induction into Royal life, Kate can talk to officials at Clarence House and has an open offer of Royal Protection. Sources close to the Palace say a date ‘next spring or early summer’ has already been pencilled in for Kate and the 23-year-old heir to marry. A spokesman for Clarence House last night declined to comment.
Diana, Princess of Wales is and always will be The People's Princess.
