The Princess of Wales was extremely well known for her charity work. She was involved with over 100 charities, doing much to raise the profile of organizations helping the homeless, the disabled, and those suffering with HIV.

Do you know exact, in which institutions and organisations she was?

I`ve read: "She remained a patron of Centrepoint, an organization that works with young homeless people, the English National Ballet, the Leprosy Mission, and the National Aids Trust."

Diana was a tireless charity worker using her celebrity status to campaign for the causes she believed in. When the Princess decided to scale down her work in 1996 more than a hundred organizations were named as having been recipients of her time and backing.

Instead, she decided to concentrate her efforts on six organizations: Centrepoint, working with the young and homeless, the Leprosy Mission, which treats leprosy sufferers in over thirty countries, the National AIDS Trust, working with HIV and AIDS patients, the children’s hospital in Great Ormond Street, the Royal Marsden Hospital, which specializes in the treatment of cancer and the English National Ballet, as dance was one of her great passions. The Princess took on causes which were viewed as 'difficult or 'unfashionable'. In 1987, Diana was the first high-profile figure to be seen shaking hands with an AIDS patient. Ten years later, her involvement in the campaign to ban land mines provoked an international reaction and brought the issue to prominence in a way that no one else could have achieved

Diana dropped most of her charities because she was trying to ease herself into a private life so she wanted to drop the charities and keep the charities that were closest to her heart.

I think that soon when William has his life more on track and finishes his education and does all his army training that is expected of him he will begin to focus more on the work that his beloved mother started. I think William knows how important these things were to her and I think he will become more like her and so will Harry. They've both got some maturing to do so it may be a while but I expect some really awesome things from them on the making the world a better place issue and the charity work that goes along with it. I think William will try and take over where his mother left off and I can't wait to see what happens next.

On the subject of why Diana dropped all but six of the charities, she knew by this point that the marriage was going to end at some point and besides having a more private life she wanted to make sure that she had more time for the boys. She knew that in light of the divorce and the emotional backlash of it she wanted more time with her sons. She also knew she would be a single mother (though not the typical working single mother trying to scrape money together for food) and knew that as her royal role came to an end she would be asked to give some of them up anyway.
